What happens after a Türkiye Bursları scholar graduates?
General information, not legal advice. For high-stakes decisions, confirm with the official institution in the next-step below, or consult a qualified Turkish lawyer.
Pending expert review. This fact is sourced but has not yet been reviewed by an independent legal expert. Treat as a starting point.
Source age note. This fact draws on founder videos dating back to September 2021. YTB updates its rules each application cycle. Cross-check the live announcement on turkiyeburslari.gov.tr before acting on specific numbers (dates, stipends, cut-offs).
Graduation transitions you from scholar to Türkiye Alumni Network member. The network has over 150,000 members working across 160 countries. YTB encourages graduates to join voluntary Alumni Associations in their home countries, and runs the Türkiye Alumni Portal as a global digital networking hub for academic, social, and commercial relationships.
Watch-outs
- Spirit of the scholarship is return. Scholars are expected to take their education back to their home countries to contribute to local development and foster bilateral relations. YTB purchases your one-time return flight home.
- Staying in Türkiye is your problem. Transitioning from student ikamet to a work permit is on you — YTB doesn't guarantee a job or legal residency post-graduation. See permits-06 for the post-graduation 6-month bridge.
Next step
In your final semester, register on the Türkiye Alumni Portal and claim your return flight via the TBBS system before your student residency commitment expires. If you're staying, work on the work-permit transition in parallel with graduation, not after.
