What happens during the Türkiye Bursları interview?
General information, not legal advice. For high-stakes decisions, confirm with the official institution in the next-step below, or consult a qualified Turkish lawyer.
Pending expert review. This fact is sourced but has not yet been reviewed by an independent legal expert. Treat as a starting point.
Source age note. This fact draws on founder videos dating back to March 2021. YTB updates its rules each application cycle. Cross-check the live announcement on turkiyeburslari.gov.tr before acting on specific numbers (dates, stipends, cut-offs).
If you pass the preliminary and expert evaluations, you're invited to an interview. Interviews are usually held face-to-face at Turkish embassies or consulates, and may be conducted online depending on the region.
The interview lasts 15 to 30 minutes and is conducted by a committee of academics and YTB experts. The standard format runs through five stages: a brief welcome, document check (the committee verifies the originals of diplomas, transcripts, and certificates you uploaded), purpose of application (your motivation for Türkiye and your field), academic knowledge and career goals (technical field questions, especially for Master's and PhD; alignment with a 5–10 year plan), and a closing where you can ask the committee a question.
Watch-outs
- Original documents are required. Failing to bring originals of what you uploaded is on-the-spot disqualification grounds. The committee verifies physical copies; digital files aren't the same.
- Language constraints. Interviews can be conducted in English, Turkish, or your native language if translators are present. Be ready to speak fluently in the language you used for your Letter of Intent — claiming fluency you don't have lands badly here.
Next step
Prepare a physical portfolio with all your original transcripts, diplomas, ID, language certificates, and evidence of extracurricular activities. Take it to the interview room — not a tablet showing scans.
