Does my student work permit terminate my student ikamet?
General information, not legal advice. For high-stakes decisions, confirm with the official institution in the next-step below, or consult a qualified Turkish lawyer.

No. Work permits issued to foreign students do not terminate their student ikamet or the rights it provides. The two run in parallel.
The rule is in Uluslararası İşgücü Kanunu Uygulama Yönetmeliği Article 43(3). The student permit covers your right to be in Türkiye; the work permit covers your right to earn from a Turkish employer. They don't collide.
Watch-outs
- This protects your student status when you start working. Many students delay the work permit fearing it ends their ikamet — it doesn't.
- However, the relationship is one-directional. If your student status itself ends — graduation, leave of absence, severance from university, non-renewal of registration — your student-based work permit auto-cancels in cascade. See work-38 for the cascade rule.
Next step
A work permit during studies is safe relative to your ikamet. Maintain enrolment carefully — that's what holds the whole structure together. If your student status is about to change, plan your post-student permit pathway in parallel, not after the fact.
